๐Ÿข Terminal Information

Port Allen Airport (PAK) is a small, public-use general aviation facility located on the south shore of Kauai, Hawaii, approximately 1 mile southwest of Hanapepe. The airport features a single, basic terminal building that primarily serves as a staging area for scenic helicopter tours, ultralight flights, and skydiving operations. It acts as a vital recreational aviation hub for the island, providing an alternative entry point for tourists exploring the Na Pali Coast. The terminal infrastructure is minimal and focused on essential transit services, providing a simple public waiting room and basic restroom facilities for passengers. While the building lacks modern commercial amenities like retail shops, restaurants, or a TSA security checkpoint, many tour operators maintain their own check-in desks and small office spaces within the complex. Travelers are encouraged to utilize the Eleele Shopping Center and local eateries in nearby Hanapepe for their dining and essential needs. The airfield features a single 2,450-foot asphalt runway (09/27) and is situated at an elevation of 24 feet, adjacent to the historic Salt Pond Beach Park. Operations are restricted to aircraft weighing less than 12,500 pounds and are typically conducted during daylight hours. Ground transportation is informal, with a small public parking area located at the terminal, and visitors often arrange private vehicle access or taxi services to reach the nearby Port Allen Harbor for boat tours.

๐Ÿ”„ Connection Tips

Port Allen Airport (PAK) is a general aviation facility located on the south shore of Kauai, Hawaii. It handles NO scheduled commercial airline passenger flights. It is primarily used for scenic helicopter tours, ultralight flights, and skydiving operations The airport is most useful when you have already arranged a vehicle on the south shore, because the real travel time on Kauai is dictated by the road network rather than the runway itself. For travelers visiting the Garden Isle commercially, the only gateway is Lihue Airport (LIH), about 25 minutes to the east. If you are arriving at PAK via private aircraft or for a tour, ground transport is limited to local taxis called from town and car rentals which must be pre-arranged for delivery from Lihue. The facility is exceptionally scenic, located on a plateau above the Pacific Ocean. Facilities include a small pilot lounge and information kiosks for tour operators Most visitors use the field only as a gateway to Hanalei, Waimea, or the west side beaches, so the real connection question is usually whether you have a car waiting rather than whether the aircraft can land. A booked car is the cleanest way to leave the south shore, since Kauai travel is road-first after landing.

๐Ÿข Terminal Information

Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) is the primary international airport serving New Mexico, located just three miles southeast of downtown Albuquerque. The airport boasts a distinctive Pueblo-style architectural terminal, which is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. This single, multi-level terminal efficiently manages all arrivals and departures, featuring a logical layout designed for passenger convenience. The lower level is dedicated to arriving passengers, housing baggage claim areas (three in total to serve Concourses A and B) and providing direct exits to ground transportation. The upper level of the terminal is the departure zone, where travelers will find airline ticketing counters, security checkpoints, and access to the two main concourses, Concourse A and Concourse B. Concourse A primarily serves American Airlines, Delta, and United, while Southwest Airlines predominantly operates out of Concourse B. The terminal has a total of 22 gates, ensuring ample capacity for its scheduled domestic flights and limited international services. Recent upgrades include a TSA Checkpoint Terminal Connector Project, which has enhanced security screening with up to four lanes and modern passenger amenities like new escalators and elevators. Amenities at ABQ are comprehensive for a regional international facility. Passengers can enjoy free Wi-Fi, numerous charging stations, a variety of shops (including those offering local artisanal gifts), and diverse dining options ranging from cafes and fast-food outlets to restaurants serving New Mexican cuisine. Additional facilities like a Meditation Room and an observation deck contribute to a comfortable travel experience, complemented by a notable art collection displayed throughout the terminal.

๐Ÿ”„ Connection Tips

ABQ RIDE provides completely free bus service (fare-free since November 2023) with Route 50 connecting the airport to downtown via Union Square Bus Station every 15-30 minutes, taking just 24 minutes total - the bus stop is conveniently located on the lower level at the west end of the shuttle island. Route 50 also connects to the Alvarado Transportation Center downtown where passengers can transfer to the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. Rail Runner connections are enhanced through Route 350 (Railrunner Connecting bus) and free bus transfers when you have a valid Rail Runner ticket purchased in advance online or via mobile app - otherwise pay the driver a $1 fare each way. Official taxi service is available with fares starting at $35 to downtown Albuquerque through companies like ABQ Metro Taxi (505-450-8580) and Aspen Rides (505-388-3692).
