"connection_tips": "Palenque International Airport (PQM) serves the historic city of Palenque and the UNESCO Mayan ruins in Chiapas, Mexico. While it handles occasional charters and regional flights, it currently has NO regularly scheduled large-scale commercial airline operations. Ground transport into the city center (approx. 5km away) is primarily via local taxis which meet arrivals; the trip to the town center or ruins takes about 15-20 minutes and costs roughly 150-250 MXN.\n\nA unique connection tip: the new 'Maya Train' (Tren Maya) has a station located near the airport area, providing a modern rail link to Campeche and Canc\u00fan. The terminal is modern and efficient. Arrive 90 minutes early for domestic departures Palenque's airport is only really useful when the ruins transfer or hotel shuttle is already set, because the city itself is the part that needs the logistics.\n\nFacilities include basic cafes and souvenir shops. Ensure you have cash (MXN) for transport The airport works as a quick local utility stop, but only when the road transfer is already planned from the airport outward. The airport is a clean doorway into the jungle ruins area, but only if the hotel or archaeological transfer is already booked. That keeps the airport a practical jungle gateway instead of a place to improvise transport.",

"terminal_info": "Palenque International Airports passenger terminal opened on February 12, 2014, replacing an older airfield about 3 km to the east so that the Chiapas tourist corridor could be served by a more modern facility. The new building was immediately promoted as an international gateway and was officially designated as such in late 2016 once customs and immigration services were fully staffed.\n\nThe terminal complex sits on a 249-hectare parcel that includes the runway, taxiway network, perimeter road, dedicated water-treatment plant, public parking, air traffic control tower, authorities building, and emergency-rescue infrastructure; the construction package was funded with 1,269 million pesos from federal and state sources.\n\nDaily operations remain focused on a single pier with remote parking positions, so passengers still funnel through a single-level concourse even though the facility was planned with provisions to tie in additional gates if traffic grows. After Interjet's bankruptcy left the airport without scheduled service, Mexicana restarted Mexico City flights in January 2024 and the airport saw about 16,900 passengers in 2025, with occasional charters by Magnicharters and Calafia Airlines keeping the domestic gateway active.",
